Practice Philosophy
Dr. Weir is a dual fellowship-trained hand and shoulder & elbow surgeon that treats all conditions affecting the upper extremity. His training as a hand surgeon has prepared him to treat the most complex shoulder and elbow conditions. He takes a patient-centered approach with shared decision making to provide the best treatment approach for each individual patient. He believes understanding the patient’s story is the key to a successful physician-patient relationship and treatment outcome. Whether he is treating debilitating shoulder arthritis or an on-field injury, Dr. Weir is eager to get patients back to the activities that bring them joy.
Educational Background
After moving from his hometown of Philadelphia to Southwest Florida, Dr. Weir completed his undergraduate and medial training at Florida State University. Eager to return to his home after medical school, Dr. Weir completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the world-renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He finally returned to Philadelphia for his year-long hand surgery fellowship at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center/Thomas Jefferson University. He elected to complete a second year-long fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After training, Dr. Weir finally returned to Philadelphia to improve the lives of his hometown community.

Clinical Practice
As a dual-fellowship-trained orthopaedic shoulder, elbow, and hand surgeon, Dr. Weir treats all conditions of the upper extremity from the collar bone to the fingertip. He has a special interest in routine and complex shoulder and elbow conditions. Dr. Weir is one of few surgeons that have completed two year-long fellowships in shoulder/elbow and hand surgery. This gives Dr. Weir a different perspective that considers the entire upper extremity to provide the best treatment possible to his patients. While he treats simple and complex hand conditions, Dr. Weir has a special focus on reconstructive and arthroscopic treatments for shoulder and elbow conditions.
Shoulder conditions:
- Rotator cuff: including tendon transfers (lower trapezius and latissimus transfer) and superior capsular reconstruction (SCR)
- Shoulder instability or hyperlaxity: arthroscopic and open
- Trauma: any humerus fracture, scapula fracture, clavicle fracture, shoulder (AC) separation, sternoclavicular joint disorders
- Arthritis: anatomic total shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, infections, custom implants, allograft prosthetic composite reconstruction, megaprosthesis
- Frozen shoulder
- Scapular disorders: winging, dyskinesis
Elbow conditions:
- Sports conditions:
- Elbow instability: lateral and medial ligament repair/reconstruction (“Tommy John”)
- Distal biceps/triceps ruptures
- Tennis and golfer elbow
- OCD lesions
- Trauma: any elbow injury
- Arthritis:
- Elbow arthroscopy (osteocapsular arthroplasty)
- Interposition arthroplasty
- Total elbow arthroplasty: including primary and complex revision reconstructions
- Stiff elbow: contracture release (open and arthroscopic)
- Nerve conditions around the elbow
